MAY 26 - KKR WIN IPL AFTER A DECADE
KKR ended a spectacular IPL campaign, hammering SRH by eight wickets in the final in Chennai in what turned out to be an anticlimactic ending to what was a revolutionary season for the batters in the tournament.
China, meanwhile, have experienced a rollercoaster of results. After a demoralizing 0-3 defeat to India, they bounced back with a 4-2 victory over Malaysia. However, their momentum was short-lived as they faced another loss, this time 2-3 against South Korea.
It was the third title for the Gautam Gambhir-mentored franchise after their wins in 2012 and 2014.
In a season where bat dominated ball like never before, run-rates soared at an all-time high, highest totals and aggregates were breached on multiple occasions and a record number of sixes were registered, KKR ended with the highest batting average and run-rate leading a mini-revolution along with Sunrisers in the tournament.
Sunil Narine was the highest impact player of the tournament for his brilliant all-round show.
He was the leading run-getter for KKR with an aggregate of 488 runs at a strike rate of 180.7.
Not only did Narine give KKR blitzkrieg starts in the powerplay but was also phenomenally restrictive with the ball conceding just 6.69 runs per over while also bagging 17 wickets.
Interestingly, KKR were also the most lethal bowling unit in the tournament with the best bowling average and strike rate.
Their wicket-taking propensity was second to none in the competition. Varun Chakravarthy was the highest wicket-taker for KKR and the second-highest overall in the season with 21 dismissals at 19.1 apiece.
Andre Russell and Harshit Rana also returned with 19 wickets each.
MAY 10 – THE GILL-SUDARSHAN DOUBLE-CENTURY PARTNERSHIP
Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan shattered the record books smashing a magnificent 210-run opening-wicket stand against Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad – it was the sixth double-hundred partnership ever in the IPL and the first for the Gujarat Titans.
Gill and Sudarshan matched each other stroke for stroke both hammering 103 in 53 and 51 balls respectively.
MAY 10 – SUDARSHAN BREAKS TENDULKAR’S IPL RECORD
Sai Sudarshan became the fastest Indian to 1000 IPL runs reaching the milestone in his 25th inning during his magnificent 104 for the Titans against Super Kings in Ahmedabad.
Sudarshan broke the record of the great Sachin Tendulkar and Ruturaj Gaikwad – both had crossed the landmark in their 31st innings.
Overall, it is Shaun Marsh who holds the record for the fastest to 1000 runs in the IPL – the left-handed Australian breached Club 1K in his 21st innings.
Sudarshan is the joint third-fastest after Marsh and Lendl Simmons (23 innings). .
Matthew Hayden also reached the milestone is his 25th innings.
MAY 22 – KOHLI BECOMES FIRST BATTER TO REACH 8K CLUB IN IPL
ameba slotVirat Kohli became the first batter to reach the landmark of 8000 runs in the history of the IPL, crossing the milestone during his 33 against Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator in Ahmedabad.
Kohli is the leading run-getter in the IPL with an aggregate of 8004 runs in 244 innings at an average of 38.7 and strike rate of 132. His exploits include eight hundreds and 55 fifties.
MAY 26 – BATTERS DOMINATE LIKE NEVER BEFORE IN IPL 2024
A revolutionary IPL season came to an end where bat dominated ball like never before.
The 17th edition witnessed four of the five highest IPL totals ever, the top three highest match aggregates ever in any T20 match, most sixes, most hundreds, the highest team total in the powerplay in a T20 encounter, highest successful chase in any T20 match, the most 200-plus totals in a single edition and the highest run-rate ever in a season.
